GOALS
Goal 1:
Create
Transitional, Affordable and Permanent Housing:
1. create
a separate dedicated facility,
2. develop a social work component,
3. hire a full-time
director,
4. provide health and recreation services,
5. continue to work with Capitol Group ministries for intake, and
6. seek volunteers from other organizations
Goal 2:
Comprehensive Services for Transient Men, Women and Children:
1. provide facilities for showering, washing clothes, and mail
boxes,
2. access to medical services,
3. provide counseling,
4. develop job training and placement programs,
5. teach basic life skills,
6. provide resources for transportation,
7. provide clothing,
8. provide emergency child care, and
9. hire staff for this program component.
Goal 3: Create Broad-based Educational Programs for Youth and Adults:
1. Operate a Shalom Saturday Academy and Computer Tutoring,
2. Teach ESL-English as a Second Language/SL – Spanish as a Second
Language,
3. Provide computer training,
4. offer basic life skills,
Goal 4: Health and Recreation Services
1. Sponsor preventative health awareness programs; including a
mobile health unit,
2. provide referrals for substance abuse rehabilitation,
3. create a wellness program, develop a home healthcare agency
4. develop plans for an HIV clinic,
5. establish a male health initiative,
Goal 5: Immigration Services:
1. Plan to establish an Immigration and Naturalization Service
Center in the Shalom Zone,
2. Provide an education and resource center/referrals, and
3. Assist in getting affordable legal services.
Goal 6: Business and Economic Development:
1. Create a business council,
2. Acquire property,
3. Develop business incubators:
a. Technology, and
b. Small businesses.
4. Determine profit making enterprises for development in the
community:
a. FedEx/Mailboxes/United Parcel Service,
b. Baskin Robbins/Devon House,
c. African/West Indian catering/carryout,
d. Bookstore,
e. Home healthcare, and
f. Temporary employment agency.
